Reputation management or branding is of increasing importance for any public organization. This presentation will, based on a new book, discuss perspectives on reputation management generally and related leadership challenges more specifically, types of symbols used and what may explain variations between countries and sectors. Empirically, the presentation will mainly focus on reputation management at Chinese, American and Nordic universities. The wider implications of the study for leadership in reputation management more generally in the public sector will also be discussed.
Tom Christensen is a Professor in Public Policy and Administration, Department of Political Science, University of Oslo. He has the last four years been a Visiting Professor at Public Administration and Policy, Renmin University, under the Thousand Talents Program. From this September he is also Distinguished Visiting Professor at School of Public Policy and Management, Tsinghua University. Professor Christensen’s research is based in organization theory and is empirically focused on central civil service organizations and comparative public sector reforms. He is a world-renowned professor in his field with a huge international academic production and has during the last decade published extensively with Chinese colleagues.
