Senior Environmental and Social Advisor,AIIB.Stephen Lintner.

About the speaker

Dr. Lintner has over 40 years of worldwide experience in the assessment and management of environmental and social risks and impacts, and integration of this knowledge into decision making. He is currently the Senior Environmental and Social Advisor of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). Environmental and social sustainability is a fundamental aspect of the AIIB's support for sustainable infrastructure, enhanced cross-border connectivity and private capital mobilization in Asia. Dr. Lintner has held a leadership role in development of AIIB's Environmental and Social Framework (ESF). The ESF is a system that supports AIIB and its clients in achieving environmentally and socially sustainable development outcomes of projects.

Dr. Lintner is also a Visiting Professor of Geography at King’s College London and serves as a member of the Board of the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI). He is a former President of the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA).

During his tenure at the World Bank, from 1988 to 2014, Dr. Lintner held leadership roles in a range of environmental and social policy, strategy, technical and capacity building activities at the global, regional and national levels. He served most recently as the Bank’s Senior Technical Advisor, with responsibility for developing, interpreting and overseeing the implementation of the environmental and social safeguard policies of the World Bank. Earlier, he was Advisor for Freshwater, Coastal and Marine Resources Management.

Dr. Lintner holds a Ph.D. in Geography and Environmental Engineering from Johns Hopkins University (USA). He has received numerous awards and medals, and was made an Honorary Professor at Hohai University in China.

About the event

“Wen Tao” International Forum of Tsinghua University is hosted by Tsinghua University and organized by Schwarzman College. Lectures are delivered by scholars/experts from prestigious international organizations and global development institutions, and attended by students and faculty in Tsinghua University.

The Purpose of “Wen Tao” International Forum of Tsinghua University is to create a new pattern of liberal arts studies featuring higher standards and more areas of excellence for Tsinghua University, foster top-of-class innovative talents entrusted with the mission of the future through the knowledge imparted by experts, deepen international exchanges and cooperation, broaden international horizon, further build up the foundation of liberal arts and nurture greater attainment in the field.

Participation

This event is open to Tsinghua students, faculty, and staff. Please present valid Tsinghua ID Card to access Schwarzman College. Guests will be admitted on a first come basis until all seating is full. This lecture will be given in English.
