Xiaochuan Wang is CEO of Sogou and formerly SVP and CTO of Sohu.com. He is the inventor of the Sogou Keyboard and Sogou Search, which are, respectively, the national input method and the second largest search engine in China. In 1994 he completed all proof of elementary geometry propositions using a microcomputer with Wu’s elimination method for the first time. In 1996 he took the gold medal in the Eighth International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), later serving as coach of China’s national team. In 2014 Wang earned the Emerging Entrepreneur laurel of the Ernst & Young China Entrepreneur of the Year awards. In 2015 he won first prize in the Beijing Science and Technology Award for his research: Group-Intelligence Supported Internet Technology and Application. He has been honored as one of the Top 100 Leading Talents of Technology–Beijing, Top 10 Science and Technology Figures Promoting the Creation of Beijing, and Beijing Model Worker. In 2016, on behalf of Sogou, Wang donated 180 million Yuan to Tsinghua University to establish Tian Gong Institute, which promotes research in advanced technology in artificial intelligence. He received a bachelor’s of science and a master’s degree in computer science and an EMBA from Tsinghua University, Beijing.
A pioneer in China’s internet industry and e-revolution, Mr. Wang will present his unique ambicultural perspective on digital innovation, competition and cooperation among Chinese internet players, and Chinese firms’ engagements with Western counterparts. He will also discuss some of his current “pet projects”: integrative traditional Chinese medicines and philosophies, and recent developments in Big Data and artificial intelligence.
