On March 13, Mr. Tung Chee-hwa, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and the first Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, paid a visit to Tsinghua University. He was accompanied by Chen Xu, Chairperson of Tsinghua University Council, and Yang Bin, Vice President of Tsinghua University.

As a member of the Advisory Board of Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University, Mr Tung Chee-hwa has long been supportive for the construction and development of the college. He arrived at Schwarzman College, the first stop of his visit, to exchange views with the faculty and students and to learn about the latest development of the college.
At the meeting, Chen Xu, on behalf of Tsinghua University, welcomed the visit by Mr. Tung Chee-hwa, and expressed gratitude for his support to the development of the college. exchanges and cooperation to the world stage, but also need to attract more outstanding foreign students to learn and understand the culture and development of China. Against this backdrop, Schwarzman College was established as one of the important exploratory endeavors to realize the global strategy of the university.
David Daokui Li, Dean of Schwarzman College, introduced the talent cultivation aspect of the college. He stressed that Schwarzman Scholars program was not only a highlight of Sino-US cooperation in humanities education, but also a cornerstone project of the development of Tsinghua’s second centennial.

Mr. Tung Chee-hwa said that the Schwarzman Scholars program provided an unparalleled learning opportunity for outstanding students. In spite of the growing instability and rising uncertainties around the world, global integration was still the irreversible trend. The world would be a more beautiful place if we could pursue the same dream of achieving common prosperity. Schwarzman College served this purpose and gave us the opportunity to pursue this dream. Mr. Tung expressed the hope that the students could cherish the opportunity to study at the college, learn from each other, and make the college a great success.
After the meeting, Mr. Tung Chee-hwa visited the college facilities. He spoke highly of the students’ learning and living environment and praised the unique interactive classroom design in the college. He was very pleased to hear that the students were particularly fond of Chinese language and culture.

Mr. Tung took photos with two Schwarzman Scholars from Hong Kong, Alexander Ho Young Chan and Henry Pit Kai Keung, and asked in detail about their learning experiences at the college. He said earnestly that “I feel envious of your exceptional learning environment. You must cherish this valuable opportunity and makes more exchanges with other students. You will witness the most brilliant development of the country.”
