Dear faculty, students, colleagues, and friends:
According to the Chinese lunar calendar, 2018 is the Wuxu Year of the Dog. With Chinese New Year just around the corner, I would like to extend my New Year’s greetings to you all on behalf of the Schwarzman College!
In 2017 the inaugural class of Schwarzman Scholars completed their studies, and we opened our doors to the second cohort of 126 students from 26 countries.
During the past year, we created many beautiful memories together. We were delighted to see our students immerse themselves in Tsinghua campus life, creating lasting friendships with students from across the university. Their academic pursuits were complemented by numerous extracurricular activities off campus. Through the Deep Dive, our specially designed social practice course, our students were able to visit Xi’an, Baoji, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Shenzhen and Xiongan, further deepening their understanding of Chinese society and granting them a first-hand look at the nation’s development.
In 2018, Schwarzman College will further deepen its roots in Chinese soil, welcome the world with open arms, and become a more integrated and comprehensive college. We will continue to help our students attain a broad understanding of China, strengthening ties between youth around the world. We will further promote cultural exchanges that foster a spirit of diversity and inclusiveness, establishing trust and friendship, while building a global community with shared values, promoting world peace and cultivating outstanding international talents.
Actions always speak louder than words. In the new year, we will forge ever forward on our shared journey with high hopes for the future. With Chinese New Year almost upon us, I wish you all the very best in your personal and professional endeavors!
Wang Youqiang
Dean of Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University
