On the afternoon of July 6th, 2016, the Global Youth Leadership Forum was held in the newly built Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University. At the same time, the 2016 Global Youth Leadership Summit launching ceremony also began. This was the first important event held after the construction of the Schwarzman College campus was completed. Chen Xu, Chairperson of Tsinghua University Council attended the forum and delivered a speech. Yang Bin, Vice President and Provost of Tsinghua University made a speech during the round-table discussion. Liu Zepeng, Chairman of Teach for China Board, former Vice Minister of Organization Department of the CPC, Deputy Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, Standing Committee Member of the 11th CPPCC was invited to deliver a keynote speech at the forum.

Chen Xu offered congratulations on the opening of the forum on behalf of Tsinghua University. She expressed that State leaders have paid great attention to Tsinghua University’s Schwarzman Scholars Program. In cultivating global youth’s leadership, we must enable youth to possess global vision, the habit to take action and courage to forge ahead as well as the emphasis on actions over words. Only in this way can they “advance world civilization and promote mankind's well-being” like what Li Dazhao had said. Chen Xu hoped that youths could learn from each other at the summit, build deep friendships and have a better understanding of Tsinghua University

Liu Zepeng expressed his views on “leadership” cultivation through touching stories of the “Teach for China” program to the audience. Teach for China is a non-profit education program set up by Tsinghua alumni. It is dedicated to facilitating balanced development of China’s education through volunteer teaching. Liu Zepeng shared with the audience the reflections of college students on their volunteering teaching experience. He pointed out that future leaders should regard social responsibility as their life-long pursuit. They should also have a big heart to better serve the community.
During the round table discussion on cultivating global youth leadership, Vice President Yang Bin from Tsinghua University said that “virtue is critical to leadership. Youth should have an open mind, service consciousness and a pure heart. He hoped that Tsinghua University’s Schwarzman Scholars Program could be an important platform for strengthening mutual understanding and learning.” The round table discussion was chaired by David Li, Dean of Schwarzman College. Participants included Jin Canrong, Associate Dean with the School of International Studies at Renmin University of China and Zou Hao, Founder & CEO of Abundy Inc. and 2016 Forbes 30 Under 30 List in Finance.

The 2016 global youth leadership summit selected more than 100 outstanding students from prestigious universities in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. As a major criterion for 2017 class selection and admission, the summit would join hands with the admissions interview office of Greater China. During the four-day activity, students would complete a series of leadership training courses, experience Schwarzman College’s unique atmosphere and undergo the strict assessment of interviewers from all over the world. Many renowned scholars would engage in the instruction session of the summer camp. This autumn, 111 Schwarzman Scholars from 30 countries would be the first class studying under the Schwarzman Scholars Program at Tsinghua University
The forum
The forum was moderated by David Pan, Executive Dean of the program. Participants of the forum also included representatives from the Graduate School and CPC Committee of the Graduate School, entrepreneurs from BP Group and Bosch Group as well as representative alumni from the Schwarzman Scholars Program.
