On September 2, Chen Xu, Chairperson of Tsinghua University Council and Yang Bin, Vice President of Tsinghua University, came to Schwarzman College for pre-opening inspection, and met with Schwarzman Scholars representatives.
David Li, Dean of Schwarzman College, Executive Dean David Pan and Associate Dean Jason Cheng introduced the preparatory work of getting the college ready for its first cohort of students. Chen Xu acknowledged the overall progress and encouraged the team to refine details ensuring a smooth and successful opening ceremony. Chen Xu and her entourage also carefully checked the work progress of each link and gave specific advice on the venue layout, opening ceremony agenda and security preparation, etc.

Later, Chen Xu visited the student dormitory and spoke with the Schwarzman Scholars representatives. Chen Xu asked about the catering and accommodation conditions, and she hoped that students can make full use of their one-year time here and enjoy life at Tsinghua University, making it memorable for the rest of their life. When she learned that many students actively participated in various sports, Chen Xu introduced Tsinghua’s 36 sports teams and encouraged them to participate in these teams as well
Student representatives.
The students shared their first few days’ experiences at the college. Blaise Buma from Cameroon said he was awed beyond words when he first came to China. Schwarzman College, by leveraging its strong resources, provides a high-level exchange platform for students from different backgrounds.
Maximillian Seunik, from Canada, said Tsinghua is very beautiful and he was touched by the enthusiasm and friendliness of the Chinese people when playing football with Tsinghua students. During his visit to the University History Museum, he learned that there are many outstanding alumni and he is very honored to be a part of the Tsinghua University community.
The students said that they are looking forward to going out of the college to participate in the chorus competition “December 9th Movement”, the Ma Yuehan Cup Sports Games and other campus activities; going out of the campus to overcome language barriers and actively experience and learning Chinese culture. On behalf of international students in the future, they hope to be a part of the outstanding alumni community at Tsinghua University
