On February 26th, Yang Bin, Vice President of Tsinghua University, hosted a research seminar on student life at Gong Zi Ting. The seminar gave general guidelines on future work.

 During the seminar, Schwarzman College Dean David Daokui Li illustrated the construction schedule of the college. Executive Dean David Pan and other staff introduced the work progress of student life, while participants from other departments gave advice and suggestions on the above issues.

 Tsinghua University’s Schwarzman Scholars program was officially launched on April 21st, 2013. After nearly three years of intense preparations, the program has made significant progress in student recruitment, academics affairs, among other factors. When the University Council met in October 2015, it decided to establish Schwarzman College, based on the Schwarzman Scholars program, which will operate as an independent institution within the university.

 Yang Bin thanked Schwarzman College’s staff for their efforts. He noted that Schwarzman College has paramount importance to Tsinghua’s development as a landmark education project in the new century and an important part of China’s diplomacy. Following its launch, the program effectively promoted Tsinghua’s international influence, challenged the educational system and acted as an important driver to the university reform. Tsinghua has always adhered to reforms through opening-up, and developed through them. Schwarzman College will become a major channel for the world to learn about China. Every student at the college will personally experience and witness China’s critical development firsthand.

 Yang said that the university should use school resources to assist preparations for student life at the college. All schools, departments and units should fully support Schwarzman College and make its development a priority. At the same time, staff who are involved with the project should also hold regular coordination meetings, ensuring that everyone is kept in the loop through effective communication.  In addition, Yang offered his guidance and made requests on several specific tasks of the college.

 Administrators from the Graduate School, Office of International Education, Postgraduate Office, University League Committee, Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Alumni Association, Art Center, Division of Sports Science and Physical Education, President's Office, Publicity Department, Finance Department, and Schwarzman College attended the seminar.
