Schwarzman Scholars is pleased to announce that former Secretary of State and National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, a Schwarzman Scholars Honorary Advisory Board member, will visit the future campus of Schwarzman College at Tsinghua University in Beijing this Sunday. Inspired by the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship, Schwarzman Scholars is designed to educate future world leaders about China. Each year, 200 students from around the world will complete coursework for a one-year Master’s degree at Schwarzman College, the academic and residential building dedicated to the program.
During Dr. Rice’s visit, she will lead a town hall discussion with students and faculty from Tsinghua University. Her remarks and the question and answer session that follows will focus on the critical importance of high-caliber international educational exchanges and the need to continually develop closer relations between the U.S. and China. Dr. Rice will also meet with Schwarzman Scholars Dean David Daokui Li and receive a briefing on the program’s development. This week, Schwarzman Scholars marked its one year anniversary and reported significant progress on the program’s development. Schwarzman Scholars is on track to accept its inaugural class of Scholars in 2016. Offices have been opened in New York and Beijing, curriculum preparation, faculty and staff hiring are all well underway, construction of Schwarzman College is on schedule, and many important partnerships and relationships have been formed.
"At a time when the need for international understanding and collaboration could not be more pressing, Schwarzman Scholars offers an unparalleled opportunity for top students from around the world to develop a deep familiarity with the challenges that will define the coming decades,” said Condoleezza Rice. “The program’s progress is impressive so far, and I look forward to engaging with the first classes of future leaders at Schwarzman College in the years ahead.”
"We could not be more honored to count Dr. Rice as an Honorary Advisory Board member, and her visit to the future site of Schwarzman College demonstrates her commitment to our shared vision for a more peaceful and stable world,” said Schwarzman Scholars founder Stephen A. Schwarzman. “Dr. Rice’s continued guidance and counsel has been invaluable, as has her first-hand knowledge of the geopolitical issues facing 21st century leaders.”

About Schwarzman Scholars:
Schwarzman Scholars was inspired by the Rhodes Scholarship, which was founded in 1902 to promote international understanding and peace, and is designed to meet the challenges of the 21st century and beyond. Blackstone Co-Founder Stephen A. Schwarzman personally contributed $100 to the program and is leading a fundraising campaign to raise more from private sources to endow the program in perpetuity. The endowment will support 200 scholars annually from the U.S., China and around the world for a one-year Master’s Degree program at Tsinghua University in Beijing, one of China’s most prestigious universities and an indispensable base for the country’s scientific and technological research. Scholars chosen for this highly selective program will live in Beijing for a year of study and cultural immersion, attending lectures, traveling, and developing a better understanding of China. Admissions will open in the fall of 2015, with the first class of students in residence by the summer of 2016.
